Use of DBT and PACE in Practice
At Opal Mind Centre, our approach is informed by both Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and the PACE Dyadic Developmental Practice model (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, Empathy). While we do not offer full DBT programmes or formal PACE and DDP therapy, we integrate key principles from both frameworks into our work to support emotional regulation, relational safety, and resilience.
These approaches guide how we:

  • Help young people understand and manage big emotions
  • Support families in co-regulating and reconnecting
  • Build emotional safety through curiosity, validation, and empathy

This integration allows us to offer flexible, compassionate, and developmentally appropriate support tailored to each child and family’s needs.

Reiki Therapy through Opal Healing

Complementary Support for Emotional Regulation and Wellbeing.
At Opal Healing, we offer Reiki therapy as a gentle, non-invasive complementary treatment that supports emotional regulation, reduces stress, and enhances wellbeing. It is designed to work alongside trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming care, not as a replacement for clinical interventions

Why Reiki Can Help Children in Distress

Reiki promotes deep relaxation and activates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping children transition from emotional overwhelm into a state of calm and safety. This is particularly beneficial for young people experiencing anxiety, sensory overload, or emotional dysregulation

As a complementary therapy, Reiki can enhance the effectiveness of approaches such as PACE, DBT, and polyvagal-informed care by supporting the body’s natural ability to regulate and heal.

Research Insight:

A 2022 study by Zadro & Stapleton, published in Frontiers in Psychology, found that Reiki produced significant improvements in mental health symptoms beyond placebo, including reductions in stress, anxiety, and emotional distress. These findings support Reiki’s role in promoting emotional balance and resilience—especially relevant for children navigating complex emotional experiences.
